Founded in 2013 by Hong Lau as a specialist architectural practice focusing on industrial, manufacturing and logistic building solutions. Previously a founding director of Twoarchitects (PLARCH), Hong Lau established HLA in recognising the need for innovative and personalised architectural services for the industrial sector. The practice has since, in less than five years, completed a range of commercial/industrial projects for tier one clients, at various locations across south-eastern seaboard of Australia. Some of the more notable projects include large coolroom and food processing facilities for Martin Brower and PFD Food Services, manufacturing & assembly facilities for GME Kingray, OJI Paper and Beaulieu Carpet, as well as logistic and warehousing facilities for Nick Scali, Rhino Rack and OI Glass.
We are solution focus and strive to achieve optimal design solutions through research and value management process. We take an active interest in emerging technology, and all our projects are BIM and cloud-based. Quality and consistency are hallmarks of our projects, and we are ready to draw upon decades of combined experience in commercial/industrial design and building to provide valuable input and solution.
Hong graduated from The University of Sydney in 2001 with Bachelor of Architecture and spent his first decade as a project architect at practices of various sizes on projects ranging from medium-rise & multi-unit apartments, commercial & industrial facilities, to large scale shopping complex and bulky goods centre. In 2009 Hong co-founded Twoarchitects/PLARCH with an aim to provide architectural service with a strong focus on innovative design, timely project delivery and solution driven apporach. The ethos of the practice conveyed across to his new venture through HL Architects, which he founded in 2013. Under Hong’s sole directorship and supervision, HLA has since delivered many large and complex industrial projects for tier-one clients.
The team at HLA Architects consists of the principal and highly experienced team of architects and designers. We pride ourselves on being accessible to our clients as well as project stakeholders. We bring highly qualified and experienced team to every project. Our most senior team members have over thirty years of experience, and our most ‘junior’ staff is an experienced professional with more than a decade in the industry. Every team member get involved with all projects to ensure knowledge gap is kept to minimum. In doing so, individual team member learns continuously to keep the project experience rewarding.
